An American reel in D Major attributed to Joe Politte, a fiddler from the Old Mines, Washington County area of Missouri, south of St. Louis. Politte was one of the few remaining fiddlers deriving from the old French fiddling tradition from mid-Mississippi valley settlements. Gordon McCann suggests the tune is of French origin and very old, possibly from early 18th-century French settlers. The tune is on Charlie Walden’s list of “100 essential Missouri fiddle tunes” and was recorded by Politte in 1977.
