A traditional fiddle tune from the Sandy River region of West Virginia/Kentucky, recorded by West Virginia fiddler Edden Hammons on a home disc recorder in 1947. The tune name likely refers to the Tug Fork (aka Tug River), a 159-mile tributary of the Big Sandy River in West Virginia. Hammons (1875-1955) was known for his idiosyncratic style and creativity, playing solo which allowed him to use odd time signatures and change tempo at will. The tune has been recorded more recently by Jason & Pharis Romero and The Iron Leg Boys.
