“Dixie Hoedown” is a lively and enduring bluegrass instrumental composed by mandolinist Jesse McReynolds of the duo Jim & Jesse and the Virginia Boys. Written and first recorded in 1959, the tune showcases McReynolds’ pioneering crosspicking technique on the mandolin. The original version appeared on the album The Old Country Church. The song has been recorded by artists such as The Country Gentlemen, Ricky Skaggs, and Alison Krauss.

I originally learned this song from one of Darol Anger’s greeting videos in his ArtistWorks fiddle course. Search through the greeting videos to find the one for Dixie Hoedown.
