The “Carrick Jig” is a lesser-known tune composed by Métis fiddler Andy De Jarlis (1914-1975). It was included in his influential collection, Canadian Fiddle Tunes from the Red River Valley (Book 1). The jig is named after Carrick, a small hamlet near Woodridge, Manitoba, De Jarlis’s hometown. A recording of the tune by De Jarlis appears on the album Red River Echoes, alongside other pieces like the “Happy Lad Polka” and “Bedford Waltz.”
