The “Fiddler’s Polka” is a lively tune composed by Métis fiddler Andy De Jarlis (1914–1975). It is included in his influential book, Canadian Fiddle Tunes from the Red River Valley (Book 1). The polka is a classic example of the distinct Métis style, which blends French Canadian, Irish, and Scottish influences. The tune is featured on De Jarlis’s album Red River Echoes, along with other pieces like the “Happy Lad Polka” and “Bedford Waltz.” The tune’s inclusion in De Jarlis’s books and recordings helped preserve and popularize Métis fiddling.
