Across the River

C majorQuadrilleOld Time

A traditional Old-Time quadrille tune in C major, documented by Ira W. Ford in Traditional Music of America (1940, p. 49) among square dance music. Samuel Preston Bayard, in his 1944 collection of western Pennsylvania dance tunes, noted a resemblance between the ‘A’ part of Ford’s tune and an untitled dance tune (No. 26) copied from the manuscript of Denune Provance of Peachen, Pennsylvania, learned from traditional players around Dunbar, Fayette County.
