Aunt May’s Canadian Jig

A traditional jig in D major found in New England contra dance repertoire and also in Northumbrian tradition under a cluster of similar titles. Printed settings appear in Ralph Sweet’s The Fifer’s Delight (1964) and Ted Sannella’s Balance and Swing (CDSS, 1982). The Shepherds, the Northumbrian trio of Willy Taylor, Joe Hutton, and Will Atkinson, recorded it as the middle tune of a set with “Danse de Chez Nous” and “Neil Taylor’s Jig,” issued by Veteran on An Audience with the Shepherds.
