Camp Meeting on the Fourth of July

D majorMarchOld Time

This traditional American march is typically played in D major. The tune served as a processional for evening services at camp meetings in Arkansas during the 19th century. Alabama fiddler James Bryan learned the tune from Tom Jackson, who received it from Coleman Barwick, an old-time fiddler from Blountsville, Alabama. The tune is often played with DDAD tuning and features two distinct parts. James Bryan and Carl Jones recorded the tune on their album “Two Pictures” for Martin Records, and the Canote Brothers have also popularized a version of the tune.
