A patriotic emblem song by the Irish actor and playwright Andrew Cherry (1762–1812), which was among the most popular Irish songs in London at the opening of the nineteenth century, alongside his “The Bay of Biscay.” Its praise of the “sweet little, green little, dear little, harmless shamrock of Ireland” made it a St. Patrick’s Day fixture in parlor collections for a century after.
