Flander’s Dream

A traditional Old Time breakdown in A major (sometimes rendered in A modal/C major depending on tuning), associated with eastern Kentucky and the Big Sandy River region, known under several related titles — “Flannery’s Dream,” “Flandery’s Dream” — all pointing to a story, likely apocryphal, about a fiddler who won a contest by playing a tune he dreamed the night before. Titon’s version is sourced from John Morgan Salyer’s 1941 home recordings in ADae tuning; Roger Cooper, Alva Greene, and Santford Kelly of Morgan County are among other eastern Kentucky fiddlers documented with related variants.
