Jenny Put the Kettle On

A traditional Kentucky reel in G major from fiddler Gusty Wallace of Metcalfe County, in south-central Kentucky. Despite the title, the melody is largely unrelated to the widespread “Molly (or Polly) Put the Kettle On” family that most tunes of this name derive from, only the tail of the second strain shows any resemblance. Bruce Greene made the source field recording of Wallace in 1974, which was issued on the anthology I Kind of Believe It’s a Gift: Field Recordings of Traditional Music from South-central Kentucky (Meriweather 1001-2, 1986), and Jeff Titon printed a transcription as No. 76 in Old-Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes (2001).
