Katy Did

C major · A minorReelOld Time

Katy Did is a traditional old-time reel from north Georgia and northeast Alabama, played in the key of C major with an A minor (Aeolian) second part. The tune was mentioned in reports from the DeKalb County Annual Fiddlers’ Convention between 1926 and 1931. North Georgia fiddler Lowe Stokes recorded the tune in Atlanta in 1929 with guitarist Mike Whitten. Fiddlin’ John Carson incorporated the minor-mode second strain of Katy Did into his recording of Billy in the Lowground.
