Lost Partridge

A traditional Old Time breakdown in A major, documented from John Masters (1904–1986) of Lexington, Fayette County, central Kentucky, who learned it from African-American fiddler Jim Booker (b. 1872) of Camp Nelson, Jessamine County. Jeff Titon’s Old-Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes identifies Masters as the only fiddler recorded playing the tune. Booker was part of a community of African-American fiddlers in Jessamine County whose influence spread across central Kentucky, noted by Richard Nevins as a source for many tunes in the surrounding counties.
