Old Devil’s Dream is a bluegrass song composed by Thomas Goldsmith, recorded by the Nashville Bluegrass Band on their 1987 album and copyrighted in 1986 by OBanyon Music (BMI). Goldsmith is also an award-winning journalist known for editing “The Bluegrass Reader” and documenting Earl Scruggs’ legacy. While the title is similar to the traditional fiddle tune “Devil’s Dream” (dating to the 1790s Scottish reel “The De’il Among the Tailors”), Goldsmith’s composition is an entirely distinct work—a contemporary bluegrass song, not an instrumental.
