Rebels Raid

A traditional Old Time breakdown in G major, documented solely from W.H. Stepp (1875–1947) of Lakeville, Magoffin County, Kentucky, recorded by Alan and Elizabeth Lomax for the Library of Congress in 1937 (AFS 1573 B02). Jeff Titon’s Old-Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes notes this tune is unrelated to other pieces bearing the “Rebel Raid” title. Stepp’s recording appears on the Falls of Richmond (Pearl Mae 001B, 1989) in a version by Bruce Greene and Jim Taylor.
