Tune

Sweet ‘Bama

A majorReelOld Time

This traditional old-time reel in A major was documented from the playing of Georgia fiddler Stanley Bailey (1914-1988), who learned it from his uncle. The tune is played in AEAE cross-tuning and was field-recorded by Joe LaRose in 1982. Bailey won the Georgia State Fiddle championship in 1932 and 1934. The tune appears in the Milliner-Koken Collection of American Fiddle Tunes. Red Mountain White Trash recorded it on their album of the same name, and Mary Z. Cox has also recorded it on banjo and dulcimer.Personal note: I learned this tune from an online workshop led by Judy Hyman at Fiddle Hell Online 2025.
