Ozark Folksongs, Volume II: Songs of the South and West

The second of four volumes of Ozark folksong collected by Vance Randolph in Missouri and Arkansas, published by the State Historical Society of Missouri between 1946 and 1950 and reissued by the University of Missouri Press in 1980 with an introduction by W. K. McNeil. This volume covers native American balladry, including cowboy and western songs, outlaw ballads, and songs of southern origin. Each entry carries the singer’s name and town along with variant titles and cross-references to related songs, which makes the volume useful for tracing a song across collections. Melodies appear for a portion of the entries as unaccompanied single lines.
