A West Virginia old-time reel in A Mixolydian mode, also known as ‘Battle of Bull Run’ and ‘Manassas Junction.’ The title refers to Abraham Lincoln’s retreat after the Union Army’s defeat at the First Battle of Bull Run (July 21, 1861). The tune was in the repertoire of Wilson Douglas (1922-1999) from Clay County, West Virginia, and collected from Emory Bailey by Dr. Malvin Artley in the 1950s. The tune exists in multiple regional variants.
