A common slip jig at modern sessions, popularized by the Boys of the Lough in the 1970s. The tune appears in Francis O’Neill’s collections dating back to 1903, listed in both “Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies” (1903) and “Dance Music of Ireland: 1001 Gems” (1907). Slip jigs tend to sound similar, leading to confusion and title drift between tunes; “Another Jig Will Do” has also been called “Riding a Mile (3),” the title of another slip jig. The tune is known by multiple alternative titles including “He Didn’t Dance All Day,” “I Whistled and Called Her Back,” “That’s the Time o’ Day,” and “Whiskey and Beer.” The pragmatic title reflects the common session practice where any suitable jig can substitute when the planned tune is forgotten – “another jig will do.”
