Boys My Money’s All Gone

E minor · A MixolydianReelAppalachian · Old Time

This is an old-time reel in A Dorian/Mixolydian from East Tennessee, recorded by Charlie Bowman and His Brothers in February 1929 on Columbia 15387-D. The recording was part of a comedic skit titled “Moonshiner and His Money” that featured two tunes played between spoken banter, the other being “Money in Both Pockets.” Bowman’s version uses AEAE tuning. Notable modern recordings include Erynn Marshall’s version on her 2013 album “Tune Tramp,” and the New Lost City Ramblers’ performance on their 1959 Folkways album “Songs from the Depression.”
