Little Boy, Where’d You Get Your Britches?

A traditional Old Time breakdown in G major, played in standard tuning, documented from Clyde Davenport of Monticello, Wayne County, Kentucky, recorded by Jeff Todd Titon on March 31, 1990. Jeff Titon’s Old-Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes identifies the tune’s B part as a variant of the B part of “Huldy in the Sinkhole,” placing it in an archaic cluster of south-central Kentucky breakdowns related to the “Betty Martin/Granny Will Your Dog Bite” family. Davenport’s recording appears on Puncheon Camps (Berea College Appalachian Center AC002, 1990) and Clyde Davenport, vol. 2 (Field Recorders’ Collective FRC104, 2015).
