Love’s Young Dream

F majorIrish

Thomas Moore’s rueful backward glance — “Oh! the days are gone, when Beauty bright my heart’s chain wove” — published in volume 4 of his Irish Melodies (1811), set like the rest of the series to an older Irish air. The phrase “love’s young dream” passed from the song title into everyday English, probably the most durable legacy of any single item in this book.
