A traditional Kentucky fiddle tune recorded by both Doc Roberts in 1927 and later by master fiddler Clyde Davenport. Roberts learned it from Owen Walker, an African-American fiddler from Madison County, Kentucky, born in 1857. Clyde Davenport (1921-2020) was a National Heritage Fellowship recipient from Monticello, Kentucky, who preserved this tune as part of his vast repertoire of over 200 traditional pieces. Davenport’s version appears on Field Recorders’ Collective Volume 2 (FRC 104). The tune shows similarities to “Fort Smith” and may be linked to “Big Eyed Rabbit” according to researcher Guthrie Meade.
