Slievenamon

A song of longing for home and a lost love by the Tipperary Fenian and novelist Charles J. Kickham (1828–1882), opening “Alone, all alone, by the wave-washed strand” and set in the shadow of Sliabh na mBan, the mountain overlooking his native Mullinahone. Through the great hurling rivalries of the mid-twentieth century it hardened into Tipperary’s sporting anthem, sung at Croke Park to this day. Recordings run from Seán Ó Siocháin, longtime GAA general secretary, through Johnny McEvoy, Paddy Reilly, and the Wolfe Tones.
